Little One, God Made You Special is such a sweet and adorable story. This 14 page board book was written by Amy Warren Hilliker and its pages are beautifully illustrated by Polona Lovsin. Both the words and the illustrations come together seamlessly to create this book that is fun and captivating for your little ones. Being a board book there is no fear of pages being torn so it’s perfect for any age and its size is oe text for little hands. It’s also a pretty quick story it can be read in less than two minutes which is great for even the littlest of attention spans.
Throughout the story the author takes us through a a variety of ways your child is special and uniquely them. The illustrations take us through scenes of animals with their babies. None of the animals are identified as mom or dad so the book is extremely versatile when talking through the pages. Specific words are bolded on each page to signify bigger points to be made. On some pages the bolded words are body parts or character traits and other ones it’s descriptive words like special and perfect.
You can simply read through this book without interacting at all but I have found both of my children love when I interact with them by pointing to their nose, or their chin when we go through the pages. It adds more fun and more giggles. The extra interaction also help capture the attention of the littlest reader in my home.
The book starts and finishes with: “God made you special, little one. There’s no one like you – no not one.” Which is such an important message for our little ones to know and understand early. In a world where it’s easy to compare and feel like you should be someone else I love the emphasis on teaching our little ones that they are perfect just how God made them as early as possible.
