Today is World Book Day and yesterday was Dr. Seuss’ birthday so I thought sharing our favorite books around here right now would be the perfect thing to do. A is such a little reader and so we have a very large book collection and make trips to the library regularly and come back out with around twenty new books each time. I love that she enjoys reading so much. Frequently she will be quiet and we will be so sure she’s up to something naughty but nope, just looking at books. It’s pretty adorable. Several books she can recite by memory on her own which has got to be the sweetest thing ever. I love how much she loves learning and reading. She will literally sit for over an hour and be content reading with us, sometimes we literally have to tell her we aren’t reading anymore books and she’s disappointed.
*Note: I have linked most of these books to Amazon for your ease and they are attached to my affiliate link. It doesn’t change your price or your order, we will just receive a tiny kickback for your purchase, which we always appreciate.
Llama Llama – Anne Dewdney
We love all of these books. We have several books and what we don’t own yet we’ve read from the libary. They rhyme and are really fun stories. Llama Llama goes on lots of fun adventures and it tackles life moments too – like when Llama Llama goes to grandma and grandpa’s for the first time, sharing, first day of school, etc. We hope to own the whole collection some day and we own several currently and they are a go- to here. If we had to pick a favorite it would probably be the first one we ever purchased – Llama llama nighty-night. We have Llama Llama’s Little Library which is a great set if you want to dabble in the Llama books.
God Made Light – Matthew Paul Turner
I searched high and low for a link for this book and found the author’s post here about limited copies until 2017. You can find it on amazon for a much higher than retail price BUT if you can find this book before 2017 it’s worth the grab. It’s one of our all time favorites and has a brilliant message full of meaning and presented in a fun rhyming way that keeps the kids interested. My favorite part of reading this through with A is when the book reads: “When God said, “light” the universe lit up, a dazzling display of big shiny stuff. And all that light, every bright golden hue – did you know that God put that same light inside you?” and A will say with enthusiasm to me “He put that light inside of YOU TOO!” Absolutely precious.
Personal Penguin – Sandra Boynton
Based on the song by Davy Jones it’s fun and catchy. Her book Pajama Time! was also a favorite until I somehow missed it was in her laundry hamper and washed it. #momfail So that one is on my list to replace. We’ve read most of her stuff thanks to the library – they are all catchy, short and fun for all ages!
yu you – Mercer Mayer
The Mercer Mayer stories are a little sassy but so cute and fun. They are an old series so they are some fun ones. A has this book memorized and reads it daily right now. We also have the Just Me & My Puppy book that she loves. My grandma scored them at a garage sale and I’m so glad she did.
The Very Hungry Caterpillar – Eric Carle
A classic and fun Eric Carle book. He’s another author that it’s hard to pick just one of his books as a favorite. He’s an author that knocks it out of the park with all of his books. We got the kids the Around the Farm (Play-A-Sound) book for Christmas and it was one of A’s favorite Christmas presents.
A Bedtime Prayer – Sanja Rešček
This Bedtime Prayer book is super sweet and beautifully illustrated. It was a gift from the kids’ grandparents and it’s one I’m glad they picked up. It goes through thanking God for all of the day’s items such as our house, our food, the animals, songs and games we play. It’s short and very sweet.
5 Minute Disney Junior stories – Disney Press We picked up this book at the grocery story the other day and we’ve been reading stories out of it almost daily. There are stories about Minnie Mouse, Sofia the First and Doc McStuffins. We don’t have cable so we don’t watch these characters on TV often unless we pull it up online but they have become beloved characters of A’s over the years so she loves this book.
Love You Forever – Robert Munsch
This one is such a classic. I couldn’t get through this book for the longest time without crying because it’s just such a heartwarming book. A loves when we sing the “I’ll love you forever, I’ll like you for always, as long as I am living my baby you will be”. She loves piping in on the “the little boy grew and he grew and he grew” part.
Tickle Me by Melissa Woo
This book is an older book from Hallmark and I couldn’t find it for you online but we have a lot of fun with this one. It features a few animals from Tickle Town and it’s one that we enjoy interacting with A while we are reading it and tickle her throughout the book when the animals are talking about where they are ticklish. It’s such a fun one, if you can find it – it’s worth the grab for sure.
A is for Apple -Georgie Bickett
We got this book for A when she was a bit younger and we have enjoyed it for a few years. At first she just loved going through the flaps on each page because for each letter there is an example of one word that starts with that letter and then you open the flap to a second one. Now that A is older now and knows all of her letters, she still loves this book for the flaps but also to trace the letters inside the book because the letters are cut out into the book with arrows of how to write it.
Curious George – Margret and H.A. Rey’s
Oh, George! This silly monkey is a household favorite to watch on TV but also the stories. There are so many fun adventures through the large variety of Curious George books. We’ve read most of these thanks to the library and I plan to add some to our own collection just so much. I feel like A loves these because she’s seen him on the TV too, so she can imagine what’s going on really well thanks to knowing the character. This curious monkey is constantly getting himself into fun mischief making for some great laughs and lessons.
Biscuit Storybook Collection – Capucilli Schoties
This collections of stories is perfect for our little dog lover. She loves the silly stories that are compiled inside this book. Biscuit goes to a dog show and wins the #1 friend award, meets new friends along the way, has a birthday, goes on a picnic and more. They are short stories that don’t take up a ton of time. She knows parts of this book so listening to her read her version is pretty adorable. She even pretends that she has her own Biscuit with a stuffed animal of hers.
My Little Bible Promises
This little book is one that A usually runs and grabs randomly and we hop around reading the pages filled with short bible verses and promises of the Bible. They are short and good verses for the kids to know and remember.
Oh the places you will go – Dr Seuss It’s hard to pick just one Dr. Seuss book that we love because we own several and read them all pretty regularly. We got Oh Baby! The Place You Will Go! as a baby shower gift so it holds a special place in our hearts. It’s a shorter version of the traditional book and it’s so fun. Dr. Seuss is so timeless and it’s always so hard to pick just one of his books.
Have you read any of these books? What are some of your children’s favorite books??
Tell me below, we are always looking for more awesome books!
