One of Ryan and I’s first dates was to the Museum of Nature and Science to the Body Worlds exhibit. I think I was far more interested in seeing the exhibit than he was, but he obliged and came along. Really it was to impress me and just spend time with me…so that was sweet and you’ll hear no complaints here. It’s been years since we have been there. It’s been over nine since that exhibit and I can’t recall another time we had been since.
A few weeks we were given tickets to the Denver Museum of Nature and Science so we took the opportunity to take A to museum. A museum of Nature and Science isn’t really the first place you think of to take a two-year old but we figured that we had the tickets, so even if she lasted a half hour it was worth giving it a whirl. So we headed to Denver for the day.
While A did like seeing the animal exhibits they weren’t nearly as exciting as the zoo for her. I can’t say I can blame her on that one – but overall, she did relatively well. We talked about what the animals were and their habitats. We pushed buttons and watched the videos along the way. A fun learning adventure but it was only so captivating to her.
The other exhibits were far more interesting to adults than children so we peeked around and headed to the kids area. The kid’s Discovery center was the most fun for her. We discovered dinosaur bones in the rubber rock pit with brushes, played a little in the open water area, and explored with their arts and crafts.
We took a break for lunch, at a local place we had been wanting to try called Beau-Jo’s Pizza. It came at the perfect time since A napped in the car while we drove there and waited for our order. Umm – yum, so good. The New Don pizza so delicious and so was our honey cheese bread.
After a quick stop in to Trader Joes for cookie butter – because, duh. We were back at the museum for the rest of the afternoon, and found ourselves enjoying the Discovery Zone a bit more. After seeing that mama was brave enough to pet a African Cockroach, A went for it too and was quite impressed with herself. After some fun play time in the little kids play area and then more dinosaur bone digging we found ourselves at the end of a good, long day at the musuem. We stopped and looked at the beautiful butterfly exhibit on the way out the door, which A had lots of “ooo!” And “ahhh!” comments for.
Overall, a nice family outing together and we look forward to taking her there again when she is a little bit more interested the types of things a nature and science museum has to offer. It has a nice IMAX theatre that we will try in the future too.
