He started to walk this week.
I’m having a hard time getting past the fact that we’re edging closely to the one year mark as it is but here we are with a thriving little boy who turns eleven months next week that eagerly started walking…really walking on Monday. He’s been toodling around with his push-to-walk toy for over nearly two months now but now he’s freely walking from item to item, person to person. It started with one or two steps at a time over the last two weeks but now we’re on the line of being able to walk full time. My heart is ridiculously excited for him because you just can’t not be thrilled for him with that great big grin on his face and elated squeal because he’s so proud of himself. I’m not sure how time warped so quickly that we are sitting here with a little babe that’s more of a boy than a baby these days but it’s here and you either linger in the time you’ve already relished in sad that it’s gone or you embrace the heck out of right now. I’m doing the latter.
We recently got moccasins from Freshly Picked and my heart is already awwing over the little memories these moccasins will hold of our sweet boy. His moccasins will hold his first steps. His first adventures of freedom. His tiny foot prints will be worn into the bottoms and it’ll be like memories frozen in time that I can come back to time and time again. When he’s growing up and going through all the stages of life I’ll have these tiny size three moccasins that hold some of his first big accomplishments. Gah, I’m sitting here nearly crying just thinking about it.
We couldn’t just get one pair of moccasins with two little ones so we got miss A a pair too. Our girl that was once so small but now typically uses hard sole shoes as she gallivants, has a matching pair of her moccasins with her brother because she opted for a pair that matched her brother instead of sparkled or sported one of her favorite colors. Of all the moccasins she could have picked in the Freshly Picked shop she wanted to match her brother because she loves that little brother of hers so much. You should have heard the glee coming from here that her moccasins were here and the “B! We are matching! Isn’t this so cute?!” that came from her mouth just moments after. I feel like we were just in this stage of life with A as we are right now with B. The fact she still fits into soft sole moccasins makes me feel like she’s still a little babe.
I have had my eyes on Freshly Picked moccasins since I watched Susan, the owner, stand on the stage of Shark Tank back in 2009. She stood on the stage and was offered a deal. They’ve grown so much since that year but the feel of the company still feels so humble and small. I love that about Freshly Picked. Susan is always putting herself in front of the customers making the feel of the company environment and outward appearance so welcoming and kind.
Our moccasins from Freshly Picked are everything I hoped they would be. They are soft and fit the feet of my kids so gently. For B they are the perfect start to walking and are the best for his feet because little ones aren’t supposed to have hard soled shoes until they are older. This article does a good job explaining some benefits of the soft moccs and I also know from a development standpoint you should wait for hard soles until when the child’s natural arch starts forming which is well into the toddler years . The moccs give both my kids a softer more bare foot feel with the protection their feet need and I appreciate. There’s no right or left foot until they are worn in and they start naturally forming to the for which I love. They are soft and have a rim of elastic across the top so they can be pulled on easily and they don’t fall off.
