The weather is changing to the most beautiful time of the year around here. There’s a chill in the air in the mornings, there is a gentle sunny, warmth throughout the days and cool, breezy evenings. It’s my favorite time for year. Our windows are open most days and all evening long. The trees are starting to slowly turn from green to vibrant shades of yellow, orange and deep reds. There’s something about the changes of autumn that gives a sweet feeling of change and goodness of what is to come. It’s like “BOOM! Fall is here” and it feels fresh and lovely.
For us, this Fall is filled with transition and change like I shared last week. Travel seems to be in the air, as everyone we know has either just got back from traveling somewhere, Ryan is currently traveling throughout the next five weeks and my grandparents are traveling next week to New York. We love making yummy treats for others and giving them away. We just made a snack bag for Ryan’s trip for him to take when he left yesterday morning. It always feels so much more fun when I include A when we make things for others.
I don’t know about you but I always plan last minute for things like this so I’m scrambling and trying to use what I have on hand. Nothing sends me further into a panic than trying to compile something, not having half of the stuff and then I just say “forget it” because it’s too much work and chaos. I know I’m not the only mama that experiences this. So, I decided to make something a little fun for us to give away to our friends, family and even neighbors as we welcome Fall. I drew out a graphic that goes perfectly with our snack bags that we sent with Ryan and we’ll be sharing with our family and friends!
For our snack mix I really wanted to Bring the BOOM to our snack bags. I wanted to fill them with delicious snacks that were light and loved by everyone AND relate to Fall. The first thing I decided on was popcorn, more specifically BOOMCHICKAPOP popcorn. It’s crinkly and crunchy when you eat it just like the sounds of Fall! We picked BOOMCHICKAPOP as our popcorn of choice because we love that it’s 100% ingredients that I know and love – popped corn, sunflower oil and sea salt (plus cane sugar for the kettle corn!). I don’t know a single person that doesn’t love popcorn – not to mention it’s such a low calorie snack that you really cannot go wrong with and you don’t feel so guilty after eating it & neither will the recipient. Kettle Corn screams Fall to me for whatever reason, so we went with a bag of that and a bag of Sea Salt because not everyone likes Kettle Corn. To add an extra salty, crunchy flavor we added pretzels (these are also low calories – double win!) and for an extra colorful sweet factor we added M&Ms (we chose peanut butter because they are delicious and no one in our circle of friends and family are allergic to peanuts!). We kept it simple but delicious!
We made it a fun time by making our snack bags – sticking all the ingredients in and then gently shaking them all around to get them beautifully blended. Afterwards we had a coloring party with all of our labels. We made some big ones and some smaller ones and indulged in some delicious BOOMCHICKAPOP for ourselves. As much as we love sharing, we adore this yummy popcorn so we made sure to save some for ourselves! We had so much fun coloring and snacking and eating while little brother napped. I laid out oranges, deep reds, yellows and browns for coloring. We talked about the pumpkins and the acorns and colors of leaves in the Fall.
Since I was making labels for ourselves I decided to go ahead and take the extra time to make it a printable just for you too because sometimes that type of thing just makes things easier for everyone. I created a smaller label, a medium size label and then a full coloring page with “Happy Autumn” instead of the snack phrase. My hope is that you’ll find them fun for your snack bags, as an activities for your play groups, or just an afternoon activity!
These are perfect for both plastic treat bags OR zip sandwich bags. As you can see, we used both. I am all about using what we have on hand and sandwich bags are something we always have on hand, treat bags we do on occassion. The medium/larger labels are excellent for the sandwich bags and you can staple or adhere them to bag – we chose to adhere with adhesive squares after mounting them to construction paper for extra color. For the plastic treat bags we used some basic ribbon to attach the labels!
