Before I went out of town, my mom called and told me she needed me and A to come up for an afternoon because my birthday gift was something she needed A for. Obviously things changed a bit when I had to go out of town last minute, so we finally coordinated a different time. I had planned for a Friday but my sister called me asking that I come up on the next Wednesday so I could help her get ready for their church’s Thrift Shop prom. So, that’s what we did.
A and I made our way up to Longmont and we headed for our surprise appointment. It was to a local place called Crackpots and my mom told me she was getting me a necklace made with A’s fingerprint in silver. So fun, right? So we went there and got that done, A did fantastic with her fingerprint. She sat still and everything turned out perfect. Once we were done, we had to leave it there for it to be fired and they would call the next week when it was ready.
After we got done there I joked with my mom that I should have planned better and I could have gotten an appointment with her hair stylist, Jack, since I’ve been so frustrated since the girl who chopped my hair into an A-Line last October. She said that we should just go by and see if he was there and had advice for my hair. So we did. The hair studio is in an old house and Jack was sitting on the porch. We walked up and he looked at my hair. He took a look at it and told me he could see why I was frustrated because I have a strong jaw line, piercing eyes but a soft nose and smile, an A-Line has too strong of lines for my face and isn’t a good fit for curly hair to begin with.
Luckily for me, Jack had a cancellation and his next appointment was guy who doesn’t care who cuts his hair. I couldn’t believe it, usually it takes 6 weeks to get in with this guy. He’s fantastic. He does something called “Bone Structure” cutting, which means he cuts hair based on facial structure so it grows and consistently flatters your face. I’ve never felt so confident with someone cutting my hair before. At the end of my appointment, he told me to just let it grow as long as I could stand it.
I was so thrilled with my haircut. I’m excited to see it grow out, as I’m not a huge fan of short hair, but it is long enough to pull back which is nice, and flatters my face. After my hair cut was over, we went to lunch and enjoyed our time together. Then it was time to get my little sister ready for her Thrift Shop Prom.
It’s so hard for me to believe that she’s getting so much older. She used to be the little two year old hanging out in the backseat of my car singing to “Ironic” because she wanted to go everywhere with me, and here she is going to a junior high thrift shop prom at the church. That girl sure is a reminder of how fast time flies, and constantly reminds me of how much I need to cherish my time with A because one day she too will be a preteen. Oiy.
My necklace arrived last week, so I met up with my mom this last weekend at my sister’s swim meet to cheer her on and pick up my necklace. My sister did fantastic and isn’t my necklace super awesome? Such a thoughtful gift that I get to cherish for all of forever, and I can have more made if we have more children. A is so proud of it too – when she saw it finished she would point to it and show it to everyone. Seriously the cutest thing ever, and it matches my mother’s day ring that A gave me this year.
