I love Hummus. Love, love, love it and it’s healthy, so really I don’t think you can go wrong! Every time we make hummus we never measure and the ingredients (seasoning wise) always vary – hence, we have no recipe. However, last week I tweeted last week that I was planning to make Hummus and the very lovely Stephanie from Sand and Starfish asked me for a recipe.Since I don’t use a recipe – I made a conscious effort to measure everything I did because this wasn’t the first time I had been asked for the recipe. So, without further ado – our Hummus recipe!
Depending on how you like your consistency you may want to add a little less oil. I like mine pretty smooth.
1 can chickpeas
1.5 tablespoons of Tahini (this is the most expensive part of the recipe but one thing of it lasts FOREVER).
5-6 tablespoons of oil
1 heaping tablespoons of minced garlic
Blend together until smooth.
Add the following ingredients to taste:
2 teaspoons granulated garlic (or garlic powder)
A dash – is Mrs Dash Garlic & Herb
1/2 TBSP (ish) of seasoning salt
1.5 tsp of Chili Powder
This makes a small batch. Since its so easy and quick to make I make it in smaller batches and once it’s gone I make a fresh batch. I play around with seasonings pretty much every time I make a new batch depending on what sounds good to me, so usually no two batches are the same! 🙂
We have added Red Pepper flakes before, great for taste but I’m not a fan of their consistency so I left them out this time.
Oh last thing – I would advise not using a small Food Chopper and using something a little bigger if you have it. Both times I have tried to use mine it wears it out.
