The lady about is my grandmother Rosemary.
She’s a wife. She’s a mother of 2. Grandmother of 5 (if you include spouses), and great-grandmother of 2 little girls (or will be on the second at the end of May when our niece arrives). She was a medical assistant for years. A friend. A Scrapbooker. A Crafter. A Picture-taker.
She has Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma.
We found this out 8 years ago, so this isn’t news to any of us.
Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma isn’t curable.
For many years her blood counts went down and the world was a good, positive place.
It still is, mind you, but we have run into some complications.
Within the last couple of months (right before the first of the year) she started having pain that was keeping her up at night, they thought it was her gallbladder.
Her blood count went up 300 in 3 months. This is a bad thing.
Turns out there was a mass 3″ behind her Pancreas. Scopes (x2), PET Scans, Biopsy (x2).
She has another mass behind her stomach that is 10″.
They know it’s non-hodgkins lymphoma but there aren’t sure which kind it is.
Due to the size of the one in her stomach it is more important to start treating immediately before it grows and starts effecting other organs, than going in to biopsy again.
She starts Chemo today.
6-8 hours of it at once.
Previously, she never had to have it- other methods were used, but this time there isn’t any other choices.
The good news is once getting through Chemo, as long as all goes well there, odds increase to 85%.
But she has 8 months of Chemo ahead, I will add they are planning to make her go every 3 weeks, instead of daily or weekly, but with that being said – the treatments will be more aggressive.
She seems to be taking it OK, but knowing her the way that I do I know she is scared.
The doctors told her that she will be losing her hair almost immediately after her first treatment, she told me that scares her. It would scare me to.
So, with all of this being said – if you are one to pray, please send a little prayer to way just to ease her heart, and calm her mind. If you aren’t the praying kind if you could send a few positive thoughts her way, that would be just as wonderful.
