Growing up we always came to Colorado around Christmas time and we most always went to the mountains and went skiing, and tubing and snowmobiling. It was a wonderful time. I remember going up to the higher levels with my dad, and we would ski in our snow-pants and sweats. No full on winter-suits for us. At that altitude, and that close to the sun – we got hot. People seemed to think we were a little crazy but the other thing – it’s a drier cold.
Afterall, we were visiting from Kansas which is known for some pain-in-the-butt humidity levels. Don’t get me wrong it’s not as bad as Texas or Florida, but it’s still bad. Ryan will be the first to attest to that when he had a full fledged experience when we were living in Kansas for a year. Your clothes stick to you, and you feel gross in the summer. But in the winter, with the humidity the cold cuts right through you and it’s a bitter cold. Snow, lasts way longer than it does here in Colorado, and lets just say I don’t miss it. But I digress.
Anyways, living in Colorado is a dream.
It never really gets brutally hot it (although we do chuckle when we hear Coloradans say how humid it is here. These Coloradans would die anywhere else apparently.) Anyways. And the winters get cold, but not a bitter, cold that cuts through you. And for that I am grateful.
We have already had 3 snows here so far, and there is talk about potential snow this weekend, even though it’s supposed to get up to 60 today. But I don’t mind when it snows, I can’t stand rush hour when it snows because all of the transplant “Coloradans” that are from states like Texas and S. California where there isn’t snow much freak out, and it takes you 3 hours to get anywhere. But the Cold isn’t bad. I go play with the dogs, shovel the snow, and I don’t come in feeling my nose and ears and fingers are going to fall off. I like it.
But although, I am fine with the winters here, Autumn is still my favorite.
And knowing what state I live in, Winter as already tried to make its way into the favorite season of mine. That’s the way it works. Snow in Autumn. Snow in Winter. Snow in Spring.
So, I’m enjoying this beautiful Autumn weather while I can, slipping on my tennis shoes, and my jacket and loving this weather.
Going outside.
Soaking it up, and taking it in while I can do it in tennis shoes, instead of boots.
I go outside a lot. Since I have the business, I’m inside a lot – so sometimes it’s nice to go out and get some fresh air. Sometimes I find inspiration there, other times clarity.
The outdoors is the perfect cure for many things, this I’m convinced of.
This last weekend I took Sunday afternoon and walked Rudy for a long walk.
He is the trooper. He loves to walk, hike, run and he’s the little one. Wyatt isn’t such a trooper. He is the kind of dog that is happy with a two-block kind of walk and he’s done. So, Rudy and I went walking for a good 45 minutes or so. Came back, got him some water, and then Wyatt was able to come for his two-block kind of walk.
The weather was perfect. The wind was low, the world was pretty quiet -and we had a marvelous time.
And today, once I get all of my ‘to-do’s’ done…I think I’m going to take my easel outside, and spend some time out there. creating. taking it in. seeing what inspiration I get.
Coloradans would not do well here in steamy Florida where every day of the year is a bad hair day! 🙂 I found a solution: no hair! (LOL) The Florida groundhog saw his shadow today and predicted six more months of summer. (LOL) Have a wonderful weekend, Kristina, and be extra nice to your fur babies!
It sounds just wonderful living there in Colorado my friend. Not a bit like here in Devon! Thank you for telling us all about it. I enjoyed this post. Perhaps I will get there one day. Enjoy your weekend.
