I came across this quote, probably about a week ago and I have been pondering it ever since:
“We can make our minds so like still water that beings gather about us so that they may see their own images and so to live for a moment with a clearer, perhaps even with a fiercer life because of our quiet.” – W.B. Yeats
When I read this quote, it stopped me dead in my tracks, and then I read it again…and again.
When I first read it I thought about just being still within our selves…you know..be more “Zen” like – which is something that I have been trying to re achieve. It’s been harder for me lately, with the stress of looking for a real job, other than just freelance work, and so the goal of becoming more Zen has been further and further from being achieved. So calming my mind and making it still…hasn’t really happened like it used to.
The more I thought about, I started to think about it at a different level. When we become still others begin to be more attracted to us in a sense of calm. Have you ever needed an opinion and you think of that one person that is calm, and a problem solver. We look for the people that are so in no hurry because we know they are taking in what we are really saying, and their minds are racing to the next thought or next idea. They don’t overwhelm you with thoughts or five hundred ideas…they listen, taking everything in and then begin to strategize, or help reason. When we are calm…when we are still… in our stillness others can find direction…rest….and even purpose.
Now, if this isn’t powerful enough…I was driving down the highway yesterday afternoon after I was offered a job more amazing monetarily than I could ever imagine, I had been waiting for months for a job to come along. Yesterday afternoon, I felt this push to Google a certain phrase, and I did. I found a the phrase in an ad on a website, it was a position they were advertising solely on the website, no where else. So I was very lucky! While driving down the highway, I was thinking about this quote I realized…God is still. That is why we are so drawn to Him, He is still and in order to reach the full magnitude we must be still and list. Within Him, we find OUR direction, we find rest, and we find purpose.
Funny how it works? We are suppose to grow closer to the image of Him, and we are called to be still, so we too can help others in this journey of life, and once we are still…we can hear the little whispers, or the pushes that you will that we are called to. Once we are able to admit to ourselves that we are scared and don’t know where to go (like I did yesterday on the phone with a dear friend of mine, Katy) He hears our little cries for help only to give us another push. Although nervous about not having a job, as well as, going insane with the boredom of day to day life – even with the added freelance work, I was going insane, and I wanted stability. I’m a business person, I love business…I was yearning for it. Though, I knew when I job didn’t feel right, I heard the whispers sent into my heart telling me “this isn’t it. it isn’t time” Although scared, and almost second guessing these whispers, I couldn’t ignore them. I knew. It’s never our time, its always His. That is why things always happen the way that they are supposed to.
So with this, I have a few lessons that I have been blessed to learn, a new job that is beyond my expectations, and a mission to become still, or “Zen” like once again. When we are still, we learn a little bit more about ourselves, we learn a little bit more about our purpose or direction we are meant to follow, and then within our stillness
